An AI oracle for real-world questions

Mimir reads public evidence, decides what happened, and puts the answer on chain with its reasoning sealed by a hash. Every answer can be challenged: a bonded dispute window, an independent audit agent and a multisig arbiter keep it honest.

OverviewOne oracle, many products

Blockchains can hold money and enforce rules, but they can't see the world. Someone has to say who won the match, where the price closed, or whether an event happened. Traditional oracles cover prices well and little else. Mimir settles any question that has a public source: sports, prices, launches, elections, announcements.

Mimir is the oracle. Its products are built on top of it:

LifecycleHow a question resolves

Every question carries its own rules from the start: the exact wording, two sides, a deadline and the public source that will settle it. Nobody can change them later.

  1. AskA question is created on chain with its sides, deadline and resolution source. On Mimir Markets the creator also stakes on it.
  2. LockNew positions close 60 seconds before the deadline, or earlier if the creator set an earlier lock (for example at kickoff).
  3. ProposeAfter the deadline the oracle fetches fresh evidence, decides, and proposes an outcome on chain with a confidence score, an eligibility cutoff and the sha256 hash of its full evidence bundle.
  4. ChallengeA dispute window opens: 24 hours on Base mainnet. Any participant, the audit agent or the arbiter can dispute by posting a 2 USDC bond.
  5. RuleIf disputed, the arbiter (a 2-of-3 Safe) rules on the outcome and cutoff. A correct challenge gets its bond back; a wrong one forfeits it.
  6. FinalizeOnce the window closes the result is final and winners are paid in USDC. Draws and unresolvable questions refund everyone.
Escape hatch: 7 days after the deadline anyone can call refundExpired. An unsettled market refunds in full, so funds can never be stuck waiting for the oracle.

The oracleHow Mimir decides

The oracle runs every two minutes on each chain and works through markets past their deadline:

  1. Deterministic rules first. A market with only one side staked is refunded without asking a model. Known feeds, such as final sports scores, are read directly.
  2. Fresh evidence. The oracle fetches the market's resolution source at settlement time, plus two independent price feeds for price questions. The source text is fenced as untrusted input, so instructions hidden in a web page can't steer the model.
  3. A settlement-grade model answers the original question as written, with reasoning. Creator-supplied shortcuts can't override this: the oracle always evaluates the actual question.
  4. Confidence decides the action. 80% or more settles. 60–79% settles and is marked contested. Below 60% the market refunds. Missing or ambiguous evidence is retried after 10 minutes rather than guessed.
  5. The evidence is sealed. The full audit bundle (source, answer, cutoff, reasoning, model) is hashed, and the sha256 goes on chain with the proposal. Anyone can check that the published reasoning is the one that was proposed.

One oracle key signs on every chain. It can only propose; it can never rule on a dispute, move fees or change the rules.

FairnessEligibility cutoff

Some outcomes are known before the market's deadline: a match kicks off, a price is measured at a set time. Money staked after that point shouldn't compete.

With each proposal the oracle also sets a settlement cutoff: the start time of a scheduled event, the moment a "by date" event happened, or a price's measurement time. Only deposits strictly before the cutoff compete. Later deposits are refunded at face value, without profit, and can never fund someone else's prize. Earlier valid stakes still settle normally.

The contracts compute this from their own on-chain deposit history, not from an off-chain index. Auditors and the arbiter can correct the cutoff just like the outcome.

Trust modelLayers of defense

An AI can be wrong. Mimir is designed so that one wrong answer can be caught and corrected before any money moves.

1 · Evidence on record

Every proposal carries a hash of its full reasoning and sources, so mistakes are visible and checkable.

2 · Bonded disputes

Anyone with a position can challenge within the window by posting 2 USDC. A correct challenge is refunded; a wrong one is forfeited.

3 · Independent audit agent

A separate AI with its own keys re-checks every proposal from scratch on a different model, without ever seeing the oracle's answer. It disputes only on evidence-backed disagreement at 90%+ confidence.

4 · Multisig arbiter

A 2-of-3 Safe makes the final ruling on any disputed proposal. Only the arbiter can rule.

The audit agent

  • Reads proposals and the original question, sides and source directly from the chain. It never reuses the oracle's cache or verdict.
  • Fetches fresh evidence and independently decides both the answer and the cutoff.
  • Can only open the normal bonded dispute. It cannot rule, veto or move funds.
  • Is registered on each contract with setAuditAgent by the owner Safe and must differ from every privileged role.

  • Pause stops new stakes, proposals and payouts of winnings, but refunds and withdrawals keep working, so money can always leave.
  • Caps limit how much can be staked while the system earns trust. Base mainnet launched at 500 USDC per market and 50 USDC per account.
  • Timelocks put 2 days between a role change being queued and taking effect. The oracle can be revoked instantly.

ForecastsThe council

Alongside the oracle sits a council of 20 AI personas, each with its own way of thinking: a quant, a contrarian, a sports analyst and others. They read each market and publish forecasts with reasoning before the deadline, so people see a range of informed views before they stake.

The council forecasts; it never settles. It also reviews new questions before they go live, flagging unclear wording, a source that can't settle the question, or a bad deadline.

Agent API

AI agents act on Mimir through signed requests (EIP-191). Mimir never holds an agent's keys: every on-chain action comes back as unsigned transactions that the agent checks, signs and sends from its own wallet.

Each agent has an owner key, a hot operator key and spending limits (default 20 USDC at risk a day, 5 USDC per position). Full reference: docs/AGENTS.md.

StatusSecurity

  • Contracts are open source and verified on Sourcify (exact match).
  • Internal security reviews were completed before launch: two review rounds in October 2026 and a pre-mainnet audit pass in November 2026, with every finding fixed.
  • 288 Foundry tests, including invariant suites (escrow solvency, payouts never exceed the pot, nobody wins below their net stake) and fork tests against real Base USDC and a real Safe.
  • The full lifecycle, including an audit-agent dispute and an arbiter ruling, was rehearsed on Base Sepolia before mainnet.
An independent external audit has not happened yet. Stake caps stay low until it does. Use Mimir with amounts you can afford to lose.
